Today in most western cultures acupuncture is considered a "new alternative" medicine. In reality Acupuncture (and its related Moxibustion) are practiced medical treatments that are over 5,000 years old. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles, (sometimes in conjunction with electrical stimulus), on the body's surface, in order to influence physiological functioning of the body.
The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy called Chi or Qi present in every living creature. This energy is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways that are called meridians. As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained, but once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness occur. Imagine rivers that flood and cause disasters or an electrical grid short-circuiting that causes blackouts. Acupuncture works to “re-program” and restore normal functions by stimulating certain points on the meridians in order to free up the Chi energy.
At Aurora Acupuncture, we strive to restore your body to its balanced state so that it can heal itself.

Michelle Iversen is a licensed Acupuncturist in the state of Tennessee and Nationally board certified through the NCCAOM. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from LIU. During her time in undergrad, she pursued pre-medicine for a time. It was during a Tai Chi class she was taking that the professor showed the class a video of a Harvard doctor performing open brain surgery on a conscious patient using only acupuncture needles for anesthesia. While Michelle had always been interested in holistic approaches to medicine, it was at this time she decided she would pursue Acupuncture instead of a career as an Anesthesiologist.

She went on to receive her Master’s degree from AOMA graduate school of integrative medicine in Austin TX. Michelle has treated her mother for fibromyalgia for years, and so has a special interest in pain management; especially for people who are just prescribed pain meds and offered no other real options. She has studied various styles of facial acupuncture treatment and is always interested in learning new techniques.
